To support overseas visitors and students, private health insurers work with the Department of Home Affairs to check that members have the right cover for their visa. To do this, we run Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) checks. We typically review membership details like passport details, visa information and the type of health cover you have.
We may contact you by email or letter if we find that some of your details need to be reviewed. If you need to do anything, or your details need to be updated, we'll explain it clearly and guide you through the next steps.
As part of these checks, we typically review membership details, (like passport details or visa information), and the type of cover you hold. Your privacy is important to us. We handle your personal information in line with our Information Handling Policy .
No. Bupa can only help you to update information on your health insurance policy. To update details on your visa, you can get support from the Department of Home Affairs.
If you haven't received a message, no action is required from you at this time. We'll only contact you if you need to confirm your health insurance details.
We're introducing these checks in stages, starting with members who joined from November 2025. If you joined before this date, your details may not have been checked through this process yet.
You can check your visa details, including any visa conditions by doing a VEVO check, on the Department of Home Affairs website.
We’ll let you know if our checks indicate that some of your information may need to be reviewed or updated. However, it is your responsibility to ensure that your visa requirements are met.
If you do not take action, we may continue to contact you to ask you to review and confirm your details.
Any changes you request to your policy following these checks will not be applied retrospectively. Any updates, including premium changes, will take effect only from the date we receive your request.
We will not make any changes to your policy or premiums without your consent.
