Financial abuse is sometimes called economic abuse, and is a form of domestic and family violence that involves theft or misuse of another person’s money, assets or property.
In the context of private health insurance, financial abuse may look like someone removing you from coverage right before a hospital admission or ahead of treatment as a way of exerting financial control.
If your relationship status changes or you’re experiencing a dispute with someone you share cover with, contact us right away.
If you've changed address, let us know your new address. If you're staying somewhere temporarily, you may like to use a trusted friend or family member’s postal address as a short-term solution or speak with Australia Post about a free PO Box and mail redirection.
If you’re not the main policy holder, taking out a new policy of your own and removing you from an existing policy is the quickest and easiest way to ensure your privacy and data security with Bupa.
The main policy holder will be made aware of any changes we help you make to an existing policy. They won’t have access to the reasons changes have been made, or any new personal information such as your address or contact number, simply the fact that it has occurred. This is because changes may impact the cost of cover (for example).
If you’ve been removed from a policy without your knowledge, contact us so we can go through your cover options. If you anticipate paying for your premium may be difficult, we can discuss financial hardship support options, too.
- If you’re aged 18 and over, we won’t discuss your claims information with anyone but you unless you grant claims authority to the policyholder.
- If you’re aged 15 to 17, your claims information can be discussed with the policyholder until you request otherwise.
- Your benefit statement may indicate the location of services or providers that have been used and may be visible to the policyholder, if you have previously provided claims consent which can be removed at anytime.
