What does Hospital Pre-Admission and Recovery Support provide?
Hospital Pre-Admission and Recovery Support offers up to four phone calls with a Bupa Telehealth Health Coach.
The program focuses on providing guidance, information and support around a hospital admission, discharge, and recovery
When planning for a hospital stay, your Health Coach may discuss:
- What to pack
- Managing your medications
- What to expect in hospital
- Preparing for your discharge and recovery.
To assist you with your discharge and recovery, your Health Coach may discuss:
- Your discharge summary/plan
- When to take action based on your signs and symptoms
- Your medication
- Where to go for further support and services
- How to best engage with your doctors and healthcare team
- Navigating the health system
- Taking control of any long-term health risks or conditions.

With Hospital Pre-Admission and Recovery Support, you can receive help from a dedicated Health Coach to assist you on your treatment and recovery journey. This program is available to eligible Bupa Health Insurance customers* at no extra cost#. Telephone interpreter services are available on request (not all languages are available on-demand)~.
Program eligibility
To qualify for Hospital Pre-Admission and Recovery Support, you must:
- be aged 18 years or older
- have any level of Bupa Health Insurance domestic hospital cover – check what you’re covered for or contact us
- have an upcoming hospital admission or have recently returned home from hospital.
Program eligibility, fund, policy and waiting period rules also apply.
Hospital Pre-Admission and Recovery Support is most appropriate within two weeks of a hospital admission or discharge.

Waiting periods, fund, policy and program eligibility rules apply. Members must be aged 18 years or over. Excludes Overseas Visitors Cover (OVC) and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Pre-admission and Recovery Support Program participants must have an upcoming hospital admission or have recently returned home from hospital.
^While Health Coaches will endeavour to organise calls at a time that suits, the availability of preferred call times will be subject to the Health Coach’s schedule. Additionally, Hospital Pre-Admission and Recovery Support operates from Monday - Friday between 9am and 5pm AEST/AEDT and not on Public Holidays. All calls must be arranged during these standard operating hours.
#While Hospital Pre-Admission and Recovery Support is provided to eligible Bupa Health Insurance customers at no additional cost, ancillary costs such as mobile phone, internet and landline maintenance, usage and service costs will be borne by the customer.
~ Telephone interpreter services provided by third party, The Hello Co. If you would like to use this service when you contact Bupa Telehealth on-demand and without notice, not all languages may be available during that phone call. Coaching calls (as part of Bupa Telehealth’s programs) cannot be completed on-demand as medically-trained interpreters may not be available. For coaching calls (as part of Bupa Telehealth’s programs), please provide at least 2 business days’ advance notice of the telephone interpretation language you require so that the interpreter service for your coaching call can be scheduled by Bupa Telehealth. This interpreter service is provided at no cost to individuals who request this service.
