Getting private hospital cover early has its benefits.

Bupa offers people under 30 a discount on domestic hospital products as part of an Australian government initiative. For each year you are under 30, you receive a 2% discount when you first purchase private hospital cover (up to 10%). This means if you’re aged between 18-25, you’re entitled to the full 10% discount.

Whatever discount you have when you turn 30 stays with you until you turn 41, so it’s a great reason to take out health insurance early.

Not all insurers offer this discount to their customers. Bupa is committed to helping young adults get access to private health insurance and we offer the age-based discount to both existing and new customers. 

If you're already insured by another provider and receiving the age-based discount, we will match your current discount when you join Bupa. We'll verify your level of discount once we've received a clearance certificate from your old health insurer – but don't worry, we'll manage this process behind the scenes, so there's no need for you to do a thing.  Your discount will be calculated as an average across your household membership. For example, iIf you're a couple aged 25 and 29, the person aged 25 will receive 10% and the person aged 29 will receive 2%. This works out to be an average 6% discount on the membership. 
No, without a certified clearance certificate from a previous provider, Bupa will assess your eligibility based on your age at the time of joining. You are entitled to maintain your discount from a previous provider if there has been a gap of no more than 60 days between leaving and joining Bupa.
