An insulin pump is a wearable device (smaller than a smart phone) which continuously delivers rapid acting insulin through a cannula that is inserted under the skin.
It's designed to mimic the natural release of insulin by delivering small amounts of rapid-acting insulin around the clock and boosting as needed to cover meals or to correct high blood sugar levels.
It tends to be used to help manage type 1 diabetes, but it can help anyone who needs insulin therapy. Learn more in Bupa's guide to insulin pumps.
