More reasons to choose Bupa Whether you’re new to the world of Private Health Insurance, new to Bupa, or just looking for some answers, we’ve got you covered.

The public hospital queues can be lengthy for elective surgeries, but with private health insurance, you have access to our network of private hospitals, where waiting lists for these surgeries can be significantly reduced.

This means you could get treated sooner in some cases, so you can get on with the more exciting things in life.

Private Health Cover helps cover the cost of doctor and hospital expenses when being admitted to hospital and treated as a private patient. Hospital cover gives you more choice and control if you need to go to hospital.

You’ll be able to choose your doctor, preferred hospital and the timing of your procedure (subject to availability), and you’re likely to wait less time for your procedure.

You get money back in your pocket for services like dental, physio, chiro and podiatry consultations. To help you maximise the value from your cover, you'll get between 60 – 100% back on most services at any of our Members First Healthcare Providers, up to yearly limits.^^

Most Australian residents pay a Medicare levy of 2% of their taxable income to get access to healthcare. But if you're single, earn over $105,000, or a couple, single parent or family earning over $210,000,1 and don't have appropriate hospital cover for the whole year, you may be charged an additional Medicare Levy Surcharge of 1-1.5%.

Maintaining a sufficient level of Private hospital cover (like Bupa Hospital or bundled Hospital and Extras covers) could help you avoid paying the Medicare Levy Surcharge.

Speak to your tax adviser for advice on your personal circumstances.

1Applicable rebate percentages and income thresholds are reviewed annually by the Australian Government. Single parents and couples (including de facto couples) are subject to family tiers. For families with children, income thresholds are increased by $1,500 for each Medicare Levy Surcharge dependant child after the first child. For more information, visit the ATO website.

If you're 31 or over, don’t have hospital cover by June 30 and subsequently take out hospital cover, you could be hit paying the government's Lifetime Health Cover (LHC) loading. That's an additional 2% for hospital cover every year you delay – up to a maximum of 70%.
