Carer Visas are for people migrating to Australia to care for an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who needs permanent or long-term assistance due to a medical condition.
There are a few extra steps to arrange a Carer Visa Medical Assessment. First, you should download and read the Statement of Assistance (PDF, 296KB).
The Department of Home Affairs website also has some helpful information about applying for the Visa Sub-class 116 and Visa Sub-class 836.

You'll need to pay for your assessment upfront, when booking your appointment (either online or over the phone). Additional fees and charges may apply.
Carer Visa Medical Assessments are only available at certain medical centres. Please make a booking prior to visiting the Medical Centre.
Send the following documents in one PDF attachment to carervisa@bupamvs.com.au. These appointments cannot be made online.
- A signed, dated and completed Statement of Assistance for each person requiring care.
- A signed Medical Report less than 12 months old, featuring:
- An official letterhead from the treating doctor.
- An outline of the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and impact the condition has on daily living. Please note that hospital discharge letters are not accepted.
- Any documentation related to prior applications.
- A scanned copy of the identification you'll bring to your appointment (e.g. passport or driver's licence).
If you do not have a current medical report and will be attending a physician for a report, this report template (DOCX, 103KB) can be taken to your appointment to assist.
After we've received all your documents, we'll be in touch to book your appointment and take payment over the phone.
- Read the Prepare for appointment section of our site. It has important information about your assessment.
- Make sure you have everything on the Australian Visa Medical Assessment Checklist. If you forget something on the day, we won't be able to complete your assessment and you’ll have to rebook.
