Thinking About an Aussie Holiday?

Don’t Forget Domestic Travel Insurance

If you’re thinking about taking a holiday in our own backyard, then it’s important to consider domestic travel insurance for added peace of mind in the great outdoors.
If you’re heading off on a road trip, or looking to spend some time in the sun at one of Australia’s many beautiful beaches, it’s easy to forget to take out domestic travel insurance, but for a small cost it can save you a lot of expense down the track if the unexpected happens.

Cancelled or rescheduled travel
If your trip is cancelled, rescheduled, or delayed by an unforeseen event, then domestic travel insurance can help to ensure you’re not out of pocket. You might get too sick to travel, or the pre-paid concert you were travelling to see gets cancelled. If the unexpected happens, then you could be covered for any fares and other costs you’re unable to recover.

Cruising in Australia
Domestic travel insurance won’t cover medical and dental expenses on a cruise ship and depending on your destination and who your doctor is, you may not be covered by Medicare. If you’re unsure, call your insurer for help. There will be options to cover you for medical and dental expenses on a cruise.

Lost, Damaged or Stolen Luggage
Check your luggage as soon as you arrive at your destination. You need to report any loss, damage or theft of your belongings to the police, transport provider or other appropriate authority within 24 hours of the incident taking place.

Minor Travel Delays
What happens if flights are cancelled and your travel is delayed? With domestic travel insurance, you could be covered for your reasonable accommodation and meal costs.

Liability cover
Sometimes accidents happen when you’re on holiday. If you happen to be at fault the travel insurance can cover your legal liability as a result of an incident that causes loss or damage to someone else’s property, or death or bodily injury to other people, up to the amount specified under your plan.

Hire car excess waiver
And if you do get in a scrape with your hire car, domestic travel insurance can cover you for the excess you are liable for under a hire arrangement.

Cover for you and your family
There are domestic travel insurance options that can cover you, as well as your partner and your immediate family under one policy. Find out more about family travel insurance.
