Bupa Health Insurance has engaged with specialist teams from Calvary North Adelaide Hospital (Mary Potter Hospice), St Vincent’s Private Hospital (Brisbane, Melbourne and Toowoomba) and HammondCare to deliver palliative care services to eligible customers* in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Toowoomba, at no additional cost#.
Through these specialist teams, the Palliative Care Choices program offers:
Greater choice of where you would like to be cared for as the end-of-life approaches
Multidisciplinary care that may be delivered at home or in the hospital
Counselling and support for patients, carers and immediate family members
What does the program provide?
Palliative care can help improve your quality of life if you have a life-limiting illness and provide support to your family and carers.
It can be initiated early at an agreed time and continue until the end of life.
We’ve engaged with the specialist palliative care teams at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital (Mary Potter Hospice), St Vincent’s Private Hospital (Brisbane, Melbourne and Toowoomba) and HammondCare to deliver palliative care services to eligible Bupa customers* in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Toowoomba.
As palliative care is based on individual needs, the services offered under our Palliative Care Choices program will differ but may include:
- Relief of pain and associated symptoms
- Select and agreed equipment to aid care at home^
- 24/7 access to specialist palliative care expertise including medical staff, palliative care nurses or nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals, as appropriate
- Support with personal care and daily activities in the home
- A mix of phone support, scheduled visits and unscheduled visits if needed
- Ongoing care planning and coordination, and regular assessments to ensure your care setting preferences are met
- Counselling and bereavement support for you, your carers and immediate family members
- Support to meet cultural obligations, emotional, social and spiritual concerns
- Referrals by the provider to respite care services and links to other services such as home help and financial support.
Program eligibility
If you are clinically assessed as suitable for palliative care, you may be eligible for the Palliative Care Choices program if:
- You are a Bupa Health Insurance customer with a hospital policy that includes unrestricted cover for palliative care – check what you’re covered for or contact us
- You can access a location where the Bupa-funded Palliative Care Choices program is available (selected postcodes in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Toowoomba).

^Selected equipment that is agreed with the provider is provided on loan to customers on an as needs basis, which includes delivery, set up, maintenance, and pick up. Rental fees may apply. Subject to loan and use terms and conditions.
