What is Health Management?

Health Management is a feature on selected Extras covers that provides benefits towards the costs of approved health-related programs. Depending on your Extras cover, you might be able to claim some of the cost of health-related programs under the Health Management extras service.

You may be able to claim part of these costs:

  • Nicotine replacement therapy;
  • Weight management programs; and
  • Health subscriptions to Diabetes Australia and the Asthma Foundation.

Are you eligible to claim Health Management benefits?

You must be on a level of Extras cover that includes Health Management. You can check your level of cover and eligibility for Health Management benefits by contacting our friendly Bupa team on 134 135. It's also a good idea that you check your remaining limits with us.

A six month waiting period applies to this benefit.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)

Weight Management

To claim your Health Subscriptions to Diabetes Australia and the Asthma Foundation, you'll need to follow these steps:

Step 1 – Check your cover in myBupa

Log into myBupa and check your Extras Cover policy information to see if you are covered for Health Management on your Extras Cover. Alternatively, call us on 134 135.

Step 2 – Submit your claim

You can claim for Nicotine replacement therapy; Weight management programs; and Health subscriptions to Diabetes Australia and the Asthma Foundation via post or at a Bupa store. Online claiming in myBupa is not available.

Simply visit a Bupa Store in person with your original account or receipts.

Submitting by post: Mail your completed Claim Form (PDF 150kb) and original account or receipts to GPO Box 9809, BRISBANE, QLD 4001.

Claim a Benefit for a Weight Management Program

If you are considering a weight management program depending on your extras cover, you may be able to claim a benefit for a weight management program on our Health Management extras service.

How does it work?


Programs should be based on face-to-face consultations or visits with program providers registered with Bupa. Contact Bupa on 134 135 to confirm if your weight management program is currently covered by Bupa.
 
No benefits will be payable for:
  • Food
  • Books
  • Videos
  • Weight Loss Medications

How to make a claim

Step 1 – Check your cover in myBupa

Log into myBupa and check your Extras Cover policy information to see if you are covered for Health Management on your Extras Cover. Alternatively, call us on 134 135.

Step 2 – Choose a weight management program

Speak to your healthcare professional who can recommend a weight management program that are suitable for you.

Step 3 – Submit your claim

You can claim for Nicotine replacement therapy & Weight management programs via post or at a Bupa store. Online claims in myBupa is not available.

Simply visit a Bupa Store in person with your original account or receipts.

Submitting by post: Mail your completed Claim Form (PDF 150kb) and original account or receipts to GPO Box 9809, BRISBANE, QLD 4001.

Nicotine replacement therapy benefit on Health Management

If you are thinking of quitting smoking, you may decide to try nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).

NRT can help you by reducing your nicotine cravings to increase your chances of quitting. It’s less harmful to your lungs than smoking. NRT is available on prescription or over-the-counter at pharmacies as nicotine gum, patches, tablets, lozenges or inhalers.

Depending on your Extras cover, you may be able to claim a benefit for (NRT) on our Health Management extras service.

How does it work?

  • Please discuss appropriate nicotine replacement therapy with your healthcare professional. When it comes to claim, all you need is your tax invoice from the pharmacy where it was purchased.
  • Benefits are payable where NRT is not available through the Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme (PBS). To check if NRT is available through the PBS, ask your pharmacist or doctor, or call us on 134 135
  • No benefits will be payable for hypnotherapy to give up smoking. Hypnotherapy may be covered in some circumstances under psychology if this is included in your Extras cover – contact us to find out more

Step 2 – Choose NRT product

Speak to your healthcare professional who can recommend a product that are suitable for you.

Please ensure that your chosen NRT product has met the following conditions for benefits to be payable:

  • The nicotine replacement therapy is not available through the PBS
  • You have an official receipt from a pharmacy

Step 3 – Submit your claim

You can claim for Nicotine replacement therapy & Weight management programs via post or at a Bupa store. Online claims in myBupa is not available.
