Automatically hit your lifetime limit on final claim
If you’re paying for a full course of orthodontic treatment by instalments, let us know when a claim is for your final payment and we will automatically pay out whatever is remaining up to your lifetime limit.*
You’ll see this prompt when you submit a claim in myBupa.
You may not need a treatment plan
If your orthodontic treatment spans two years, we usually do not need a treatment plan.
We may request a treatment plan in some instances, such as for customers who have no lifetime limit or for those whose treatment is longer than two years to confirm active treatment.
It’s easy to claim the full cost of your treatment, up to your yearly and lifetime limit regardless of how you pay for it.*
Yearly limits at least 50% of lifetime limit
Most full courses of orthodontic treatment last either two or three years, but some customers with two-year treatments weren’t reaching their lifetime limits.
We’ve updated all covers so that the yearly limit is at least 50% of the lifetime limit.
It’s only fair that everyone covered for orthodontics can unlock the full value of their policy.
Frequently asked questions
What is the orthodontic lifetime limit?
The lifetime limit is the maximum amount you can claim over the lifetime of your policy. It is measured per individual on your policy, so if you have a partner or dependants, they will each have their own limit. Any benefits you received from other policies or health insurance funds are counted towards your limit as well.*
What types of treatments and braces are covered under the Orthodontics service?
Common orthodontic treatments include all types of braces, such as metal braces, ceramic braces and lingual braces. It also includes products like Invisalign®.
If you’re in doubt about whether a treatment is considered orthodontic, speak to your dentist or orthodontist to confirm. All orthodontic item codes start with an ‘8’.

What counts as a full course of orthodontic treatment?
Items 825, 831, 881, and 882 count as a full course of orthodontic treatment.
All other orthodontic items may be payable in instalments or upfront, however we only pay a single benefit towards the service.

How do I submit a claim?
It’s easy to submit a claim with the myBupa app. Once you log in, you’ll be guided through all steps required. If it’s your final claim for your orthodontic treatment, you should inform us when prompted so we can pay out any remaining value in your lifetime limit, up to the cost of your full treatment.
