Get to know what you're covered for.
Before you seek any treatment it's important for you to understand what you're covered for.
Call us on 134 135 so we can give you the most complete and up-to-date information about your cover.
Waiting periods
It's also important for you to check if any waiting periods apply to certain services on your cover.
What's a waiting period?
From the time when you first join a health fund or change to a higher level of cover a waiting period is the period of time before benefits are payable for certain medical procedures or services. A waiting period starts on the date that you enter Australia or the date that you start your membership, whichever is the later date. That is, if you apply for health insurance cover before coming to Australia, the cover and the waiting periods only commence when you arrive. It is important you understand what services you won’t be covered for immediately after you join.
Before seeking treatment
What if I need treatment before my waiting period has ended?
You might not be able to receive anything from Bupa to cover treatment costs if you receive a service or treatment within your waiting period. Always contact us to check first, just in case! Otherwise it could end up costing you a lot of money.
Claiming
With Bupa OVC or OSHC , you'll be able to claim for most Medical and Extras services online.^
If you were treated at a Members First or Network Hospital, you may not even see a bill as these hospitals will send it directly to Bupa to take care of it for you.
If you receive a bill for a service covered by your cover, you can submit a claim.^
