Genesis HeartCare Partnership

Heart disease is a complex condition and the decisions around treatment can be confusing.

Genesis HeartCare-Bupa Partnership

Heart disease affects about 1.2 million Australians. While we know what causes heart disease and how to treat it, there is surprisingly little information about the prevalence of heart disease risk factors in the Australian population, how often Australians with high risk factors for heart disease receive evidence-based treatment, and what the results of treatments are.

We’ve partnered with Genesis HeartCare, Australia's largest group of privately practising cardiologists, to help achieve better health outcomes for our customers with heart disease.

Genesis HeartCare has established systems for monitoring and measuring patient outcomes as part of their commitment to quality and evidence-based care – helping you to better understand your condition, available care choices, treatment outcomes, the chances of any complications occurring, and how you can make lifestyle decisions to help improve your health.

As a Bupa member, you’ll have no out-of-pocket expenses for services from a Genesis HeartCare cardiologist if you have paid-up Bupa Hospital cover when you’re admitted into hospital for a procedure related to heart disease.

The Genesis cardiologists will monitor your care and progress, and collect and report on your clinical outcomes. They also work in partnership with your GP to keep them informed of your treatment and outcomes.

Objectives of the partnership

We work with Genesis HeartCare to measure, evaluate and report on health outcomes, ensure ongoing quality improvements and evidence-based care. Bupa continues to work with Genesis HeartCare to explore and develop innovative solutions and funding models, aimed at reducing customers’ health risks and improving outcomes.

The aims of the partnership are to:

  • reduce the health risk of Bupa customers living with heart disease
  • empower customers to make better informed choices about their care
  • provide cost-effective care, with no out-of-pocket costs for inpatient cardiologist services
  • provide up-to-date information and services based on evidence of quality care and health outcomes
