All swimming areas will be supervised and patrolled by qualified support members for the duration of the event.

  • What is the Bupa Family Fun Run?

The Family Fun Run is a great way for everyone to join in on the fun! It is an all-ages event so mums, dads, relatives and friends can get involved.

The Family Fun Run will be a 1km or a 2km loop course. The choice is yours based on age and ability. The distance will be over mostly flat ground.

Entry to the Family Fun Run is a gold coin donation on the day. All funds raised will be donated to the local Little Athletics Association to create new sporting opportunities for children.

  • What is XRACE??

XRACE is a mystery adventure race where parent and child aged 6-14 race together, complete 10 mystery challenges racing other family teams to the finish line. XRACE isn't just a race, it's an event designed to strengthen family bonds and deliver bucket-loads of self-esteem to our kids.

Challenges are a mixture of physical, creative and mental like puzzle solving. It's a bit like the Amazing Race but for hundreds of family teams at once.

The great part about XRACE is this event isn't just for the kids. Parents and kids and complete the XRACE together. At this XRACE, you can have more than one child racing with one parent. Just make sure you have a mum, dad, relative or trusted family friend racing alongside your kids.

  • When will XRACE be held at the KidFit Series events?

XRACE will be held at the KidFit Series Blackmans Bay event on Sunday 4 March. Two XRACE's will be held at this event at 10.15am and 11.30am. The event will be free for families who've registered to participate in any of the KidFit Series events.

  • What do I receive as part of my entry?

All children participating in the Kidfit Triathlon will receive their very own Bupa visor, a Bupa KidFit participant t-shirt to wear on the day, a commemorative race number bib, a participation certificate and a bottle of Hartz water.

In addition to this, all participants will automatically be entered into a random draw to win some great prizes.

  • Do the events sell out? Can I enter on the day?

For everyone's safety, each venue has a strict limit on the number of entries allowed. Make sure you register early to avoid missing out!

If space permits, there may be limited late entries on the day. All late entries will be $20.00 per child.

  • How can my kids prepare for event day?

The Bupa KidFit Triathlon is for children aged 7-15 years of age, making it a fun and all-inclusive experience. However, it is a good idea to get some practice in before the event day. Make sure you check out our Get Ready Guide for some great tips on training, nutrition and staying strong and healthy!

  • What do I need to know before I arrive?

    Arrival time

It's important to make sure that you arrive at the venue with plenty of time to spare. There are usually over 500 children and their parents attempting to register in the morning, so we want to make sure we have more than enough time to get everyone through before the Triathlon begins.

    Road closures & parking

In order to create a fun and safe event course for your child, there will be road closures at all of the events. These will be indicated on the event maps. As we expect high volumes of people to be at the venue on event day, we ask that all parents be considerate and mindful of their surroundings, and avoid parking in unsuitable areas such as driveways, bus stops and on closed roads.

No traffic will be allowed on the roads being used for the events, with the exception of emergency vehicles. If you see an ambulance, police or fire vehicle, please move to the side of the road and let them pass. Traffic marshals will direct you in cases of emergency vehicles.

    Spectators

Unless you have registered to be a member of the Bupa Support Team on the day, the course is out of bounds for all parents and spectators, and must be kept clear at all times. There will be plenty of areas where you will be able to view the event surrounding the course.

  • What do I do when I arrive at an event?
    1. First things first – head over to the registration tent. Here your child will receive an information pack including a visor and participant shirt (info packs for triathlon participants only) and have their name marked off as a confirmed starter. This is essential!
    2. Their event number bib needs to be pinned to the front of the shirt they will be running in, placed underneath the event logo. You can also mark their left front upper thigh and right upper arm with their bib number using a waterproof marker. There will be markers available on the day but these are always in high demand, so if you have one, bring it with you.
    3. At the registration table, you will be advised where to place your child’s bike. Usually the younger age groups will be asked to rack their bikes first, with older participants asked to place their bikes in a holding area, or to wait with their bikes until called.
    4. Once you enter the bike rack area (which is also known as transition), make sure the bike is racked with the correct age group. Listen carefully to all directions from the course marshals. Place the rear wheel of your bike in the rack, then set up your child’s shoes, shirt and anything else that may be needed as close the bike as possible (towel, water etc.). Remember that space is limited in the transition area, so please be as neat and tidy as you can. Once you are done, leave the transition area and wait for the event MC to call the start of the Triathlon! Please DO NOT leave bags or other bulky items in transition.
  • My child is not a strong swimmer.
Will he/she be okay during this leg of the event?

We encourage all participants to swim if possible. However, as participation is the most important part of the Bupa KidFit Triathlon, we encourage all children to enter the Triathlon regardless of whether or not they can swim. Non-swimmers will be able to wade through the entire swim leg. The water will be between shoulder and mid-chest depth (Launceston venue is unable to cater for this and as such kick boards will be available to use for non-swimmers).

Participants will be divided into small groups of up to 20 children. All participants will be grouped according to age and ability. No children will be placed amongst children that are older than them.

What to wear: All swimmers need to wear bathers. Goggles, wetsuits and swim caps are optional. Flippers and snorkels are not allowed. Remember to apply sunscreen too.

  • How can I help my child prepare for the tricky transitions?

Transitions are the changeovers between each leg of a triathlon. The transition area is where the bikes are held. For first timers, this is often the trickiest part of the event. Like many things, the best way to prepare your child is to practice before the event. When they finish the swim, they will need to take off their googles and swimming cap, and put on their socks, shoes, shirt and helmet for the ride. When returning from the ride, they will take off their helmet and put on their Bupa sun visor for the run to the finish line.

We will have members of the Bupa Support Team and traffic marshals in the transition area to assist children with shoes, helmets and getting and stowing of their bikes. It can be a very cramped area so extra people can really clog things up. We respectfully ask all parents not to come into this area. Viewing areas are very close to transition so there are ample opportunities to cheer your children on from the side and provide encouragement.

Bags are not permitted in the transition area. All bags must be left with a parent or guardian before entering the transition area.

  • What happens at the bike leg stage?

After your child’s swim, they will enter transition, and its important they remember to take a deep breath and relax and find their gear as quickly as you can. They can start by putting on their shirt, then shoes - making sure shoelaces tied and finally, helmet.

What to wear: A helmet must be worn, along with closed running shoes. Sandals and thongs are not allowed. It's important to remember that their shirt must clearly display their bib number. Make sure you have a look at the item checklist for further details.

Remember – any kind of bike can be used if it's in good working order and it’s important to have a fitted helmet.

For any bike repairs or maintenance ahead of your event, check here for a list of some bike stores in your area.

  • What if my child gets lost on the course?

Don’t you worry. The Bupa Support Team and traffic marshals will be out on the course to help point your kids in the right direction and making sure that all participants are staying on the correct route, and helping to ensure that everyone stays safe.

  • What happens at the run leg stage?

Once they reach the run leg, it’s almost the end of the event! It’s important they don’t to push themselves too hard — it's better to finish happy than to finish sore! What to wear: All participants must wear closed shoes and a top during the run leg. Like in the bike leg, sandals and thongs are not allowed.

  • What happens at the finish line?

Once they cross the finish line, they can have their photo taken in the Bupa KidFit Champion Zone, which can be shared on Facebook! Once that’s done they will head over to the refreshment area to catch up with friends and family, and reflect on what a great job they've done!

Remember – bikes cannot be collected from the transition area until the event MC announces it. In most cases this will not be until that last person has completed the event in that particular age grouping. Once called please collect bikes as quickly as possible.

  • How can I volunteer at an event?

For parents who wish to help on the event day and join the Bupa Support Team, please register on our volunteer section. All volunteers will be teamed with an existing official. This is a great way to get involved in the event for some real close up action. Even if it's just for an hour or two, it would be greatly appreciated.
