Bupa recognition criteria
Health Aids and Appliance providers can apply to Bupa for provider recognition where they provide any of the following:
- Surgical (compression) stockings - excluding pregnancy recovery pants and exercise / recreation garments
- Blood Glucose Monitors
- INR Blood testing devices
- Asthma Pumps (Nebulisers)
- CPAP and BPAP machines
- TENS Machines
- Impotency pumps
- Flutter Valves
- Peak Flow Meters
- Oxygen Concentrators
- Silicone Gel Sheets
- Blood Pressure Monitors
- Hip Protectors (knickers and shields)
- Spacers
- Blood Pressure Monitor Hire
- CPAP Hire
- BPAP Hire
- TENS Machines Hire
- Asthma Pumps Hire
- Oxygen Concentrators Hire
- Vitrectomy Equipment Hire
How to apply
- Complete an application form and attach the requested supporting documentation
- Meet the Health Aids and Appliances Providers – Recognition criteria (below)
- Agree to Health Aids and Appliances Providers – Recognition Terms
- Online providers must also agree to Compulsory Additional Requirements for Online Health Aids and Appliances Providers.
Supporting documentation
Bupa has absolute discretion in granting recognition to any ancillary provider. Meeting the criteria below does not guarantee recognition. Bupa will exercise this discretion where required, on a case-by-case basis. To attain Bupa recognition for the provision of online health aids and appliances, the following requirements are mandatory:
- Australian Business Number (ABN)
- All health aids and appliances provided must be registered with the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) and must be distributed from within Australia
- Insurance requirements: public risk/liability insurance for not less than $10,000,000 per claim covering liability owed to another person who suffers loss or damage by reason of the health aid supplier, and product liability insurance for not less than $5,000,000 per claim covering any damage or personal injury to any person, arising from any negligence or other defect in respect to any items produced and/or acquired, and provided by the health aid and appliance provider.
- Health aids and appliances are supplied directly to the public:
- Medical Device companies that provide direct client contact with face-to-face purchasing options must operate from a fixed commercial address dedicated to the sale of Health Aids and Appliances. Mobile retailers or distributors who operate pop-up stalls or booths do not qualify for provider recognition.
- Medical Device companies and online retailers who provide online purchasing options must agree to and meet all of the Compulsory Additional Requirements for Online Health Aids and Appliances Providers.
