Bupa's accreditation terms for professional associations include, as a minimum, the following guidelines:
- The Association has an established constitution and procedures for distributing the Constitution to its members;
- The Association has and will ensure that its members comply with its code(s) of ethical conduct and practice;
- The Association has notified Bupa of each type of profession in which its members practice, the criteria for each type of profession, and the procedures which apply to a prospective member seeking to join that Professional Association;
- The Association members have current and adequate professional indemnity and public liability insurance;
- The Association has a detailed and rigorous ongoing professional education program;
- The Association has a review mechanism for complaints from the public (including those from patients, health funds, and other practitioners) with formal, fair, transparent, and exhaustive procedures;
- The Association can submit information electronically to Bupa in a format acceptable to Bupa;
- The Association operates and maintains an up to date website for the Professional Association that provides adequate and useful information and links for its members and the public;
- The Association operates and maintains a detailed membership database (including information on each member's public liability and professional indemnity insurance, senior first aid qualification expiry dates and continuous education status);
- The Association provides access to its representatives during business hours to support queries from providers, members of the public and Bupa; and
- The Association has membership terms that address all applicable laws including privacy and health and safety laws.
