Bupa ancillary network^

Take advantage of our extensive network of dental, optical, physiotherapy and chiropractic providers. If you have Extras cover with us, in most instances visiting a Members First provider will give you the certainty of knowing how much you'll get back.

Bupa hospital arrangements

Bupa has agreements with most private hospitals and day surgeries to provide members with certainty about the hospital costs associated with the treatment. In most instances, members will have no out of pocket experience for their hospital treatment at Agreement Hospitals (except for any excess or co-payment that may apply to your level of cover).

In 2012, Bupa entered a relationship with Healthscope to give Bupa members access to a range of exclusive benefits when using Healthscope's national network of hospitals, medical centres and skin clinics.

Healthscope operates over 4,500 inpatient beds across 43 hospitals offering a broad range of services including acute, rehabilitation and mental health services.*

The Bupa Medical Gap Scheme

The Bupa Medical Gap Scheme is an arrangement Bupa has with some private specialists to help minimise your out-of-pocket expenses for your hospitalisation. Bupa provides 2 different arrangements: either no gap or a known gap.

Bupa Medical Gap Scheme – No Gap

If your medical practitioner has registered to use the Bupa Medical Gap Scheme with no gap, check with them that they will use this for your upcoming admission. If yes, they will bill Bupa directly and you will have no gap. This is the best value option for you.

Bupa Medical Gap Scheme – Known Gap

If your medical practitioner has registered to use the Bupa Medical Gap Scheme with a known gap, they are permitted to charge you a gap up to a maximum of $500. You should ask them what gap amount they intend to charge you for your upcoming admission.

In-Hospital Pathology and Radiology diagnostic tests

In-Hospital Pathology and Radiology diagnostic tests where recognised by Medicare and performed by Bupa contracted providers, will be billed direct to Bupa, with no gap to you for these services.

Genesis Heart Care

No-gap experience for inpatient cardiologist services with a Genesis Heart Care cardiologist (Not available in NSW, TAS and NT).

Overseas health advice line

If the unexpected happens while you’re travelling overseas, we’re always here to provide phone-based support and guidance. Our 24-hour advice line is exclusive to Bupa and provides you with helpful information, including:

  • Telephone advice relating to simple medical problems, provided by in house doctors and nurses
  • >Medical referrals - directions to the nearest suitable medical facility, including name, address and contacts
  • Assistance to review medical bills with the member
  • Medical translation/ interpreter service (offered through language line)
  • Follow-up calls post-appointment
  • Assistance in booking of medical appointments
  • Liaising with family, broker, insurer etc if necessary
  • Pre-departure medical information on the countries being visited.

And if you’re planning a trip overseas, you can get pre-departure medical information on the countries you are visiting. We’ll advise you on the health risks of that country and give you tips on how to stay healthy while you’re travelling.
