Bupa Care recognises and respects that each resident is a unique individual with a unique story, and a health characteristic that requires personalised care. Bupa Care is committed to meeting the personal needs of all residents. This individual focus and understanding gives us key insights into the health and care needs of older people and their families and the importance of healthy ageing, and fosters a true commitment to blending personalisation and professionalism to deliver leading-edge long-term care.
As part of a highly collaborative international care provider, Bupa Care is able to use its broad and deep knowledge of best-practice care delivery to benefit residents and help shape the care reform agenda.
Living a longer, healthier, happier life is something we all hope for. Of course, as the four out of five Australians living with a chronic illness will testify, hope alone isn’t enough to make it happen. Which is why on 10 November 2010, Bupa Australia took a major step forward in helping people realise those hopes, with the launch of Bupa Health Dialog.
A telephone based coaching service, Bupa Health Dialog aims to combat the prevalence of chronic disease, and its cost to individuals and the health system, by coaching and empowering patients to have a more informed say in their treatment. It’s a tangible benefit to our members and the community at large and a powerful example of how we can operate as a partner in health.
The frontline of Bupa Health Dialog is its team of health coaches — highly experienced nurses specially trained to deliver meaningful one-on-one guidance. They assist people in a variety of ways, helping them understand their condition, how their healthcare choices affect it and ways to change behaviour and achieve personal health goals. Coaches can also help people engage in more productive dialogue with their doctors and assist in navigating the health system effectively.
Far from simply creating an external resource, we’ve integrated Bupa Health Dialog with — and tailored it to — the specific workings of the Australian healthcare system, enhancing a patient’s relationship with their doctor and health team.
In September 2010, Bupa Australia acquired Health Eyewear Pty Ltd, the two-year joint venture between Bupa Australia and Blink Optical Pty Ltd. This was the culmination of our pursuit to provide members with better service and greater affordability for their optical needs.
Bupa now owns and operates 27 Blink Optical outlets across five states. Not only does this give us a frontline position in helping all Australians achieve better vision, it also means we are able to reduce pressure on premium increases for optical services and provide members with even better value for money with lower out-of-pocket costs and No Gap experiences.
A seamless transition brought all 100 or so Blink Optical employees into the Bupa fold, with the added benefit of now being supported by an international healthcare company committed to leading the local market in optical services.
In order to deliver on our mission to make Australian workplaces healthier and happier, in 2010 we purchased one of the largest and most successful corporate wellness businesses in the country — PEAK Health Management, as it is now known. This is a great step forward into the corporate wellness market, an area with huge potential for growth as more and more employers realise the importance of healthy staff to a healthy bottom line.
PEAK Health Management, specialises in a diverse range of employee wellness services, including:
Because jobs themselves are very different, so too are the services we can offer through PEAK, with a high degree of tailoring to suit any client’s needs. We’re happy to report that all existing PEAK employees are now able to put their considerable skills to work as part of the Bupa family. Their frontline experience and our insight into conditions that affect the health and morale of Australian workers is sure to make a formidable combination.
Our move into the corporate wellness market has the potential to improve the health of thousands of Australians and of the companies they work for. Given this potential, Bupa will continue to look for opportunities to enhance our offering.
